‘Politics As Usual’ series was a two-part cypher series organized by Soul Food Cypher. The event brought together emcees, elected officials, and community members in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward at the historic Stoney’s Barbershop. Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner and Councilman Kwanza Hall were in attendance along with Old Fourth Ward lyricist Pill. The panel was moderated by Soul Food Cypher’s Creative Director Mark “Markmont” Montgomery.
The events created and held space for elected officials and community representatives to hear directly from lyricists what was taking place in their respective communities and lives. Additionally, it created the opportunity for the participating officials to highlight the importance of civic engagement, nuances of local government, and the importance of community dialogue. Voter registration drives were held before and after each event.
