In the midst of 2020's social uprising and response to the extrajudicial murder of George Floyd and others, I began a Creative Residency with ArtsATL.
Unbeknownst to many, George Floyd himself was an emcee. From my work with Soul Food Cypher over the years, I meet many men who were like George. I felt the pain of his loss like losing a Brother in Rhyme. The moment was a calling and I felt led to utilize the power of the culture to address it.
I pulled together some of the most brilliant minds from Soul Food Cypher and Hip Hop Academia, to create media that re-thought, re-imagined, and re-mixed the Culture. We re-imagined a city that was governed by Hip-Hop veterans. We re-examined the historical and spiritual roots of the craft in the South. We shined an overdue light on the women who have been integral in making Atlanta the center of culture over the past 20 years.
