Atlanta’s South side, Zone 3, is home to Outkast, 2 Chainz, and Mulatto. As with all Zones of Atlanta, the south side has it’s own unique flavor that has shaped these individuals and their art. What is it about this locale that lends to the sounds, realities, and possibilities in the music of these artist and others from Atlanta's south side?
In collaboration with MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), Soul Food Cypher created Bars + Beats that explored the individuality of each of these areas in Atlanta. I served as the Executive Producer on this project. Presented as a series of four events, Bars + Beats featured producer talks, freestyle cyphers, and dancers representing the respective regions of the city.
The series took an introspective and immersive dive into the sounds and personalities of Hip-Hop in Atlanta which were represented by Zone and region at four different MARTA stations: HE Holmes, Doraville, East Point and Decatur. The South Atlanta event took place at MARTA's East Point station.
The series underscored how MARTA not only connects people within and outside of Atlanta but also effectively connects people to the ideas and cultures of Atlanta.
